BIDEN, DECLARE CLIMATE A NATIONAL EMERGENCY
With Biden’s climate agenda stalled in the Senate and the Supreme Court likely to cut back the Environmental Protection Agency’s authority, bold executive action is necessary. Declaration of a national climate emergency would, as Rep. Blumenauer explains, allow Biden to “unleash every resource at our disposal to halt, reverse, mitigate, and prepare for the consequences of this climate crisis.”

FOR MONTHS, BIDEN WAS PREPARING FOR CONFRONTATION WITH PUTIN
The sanctions locked up over $600 billion that Russia had parked in foreign banks, and they have stopped Russia from using the dollar, the Euro, and the SWIFT foreign payment system–all making international sales or purchases challenging. This will likely cause energy prices here to soar. Nevertheless, Biden has brilliantly directed the financial war.

FRIDAY RECAP: MARCH 4, 2022
We are living through historic events. Remember when we thought Trump’s election was a disaster? Then a pandemic. Then the sacking of the Capitol. Now, Ukraine. This week, Indivisible Oregon’s Daily Actions sorted through events with two DAs on Ukraine: DEMOCRACY’S BATTLEGROUND on Tuesday, and UKRAINE IS FIGHTING FOR ALL OF US Wednesday. Then Biden has nominated a former public defender, Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson, who we believe will be A SUPREME COURT JUSTICE FOR US ALL. Check out the DAs.

A SUPREME COURT JUSTICE FOR US ALL
The Supreme Court should reflect the diversity of the public it serves—but it never has. Biden’s nomination of Ketanji Brown Jackson—an exceptionally well qualified attorney with an extensive judicial record demonstrating her commitment to fairness, impartiality, and equal justice for all—is a long overdue first step towards diversifying the Court.

UKRAINE IS FIGHTING FOR ALL OF US
The heroic resolve of Ukrainians to defend their homeland is part of a much larger struggle between democracy and dictatorship. We must call out Putin’s invasion of Ukraine and vigorously support the Biden Administration’s commitment to defend Ukraine, NATO and the G-7. While protecting democracy here and abroad will come with a cost, we must accept this challenge.

UKRAINE IS DEMOCRACY’S BATTLEGROUND
For decades, Putin has been fighting a shadow war to divide and destabilize free nations. In the US, his efforts have radicalized fringe Republicans. The Putin Republicans are successfully dismantling democracy’s most fundamental right, the right to vote, in many states. Before he attacked Ukraine, citizens there had rejected a Russian puppet and elected a comedian who has become democracy’s hero.

FRIDAY RECAP: February 25, 2022
Even as Europe careens into war, we still need to press our Members of Congress to move forward on progressive legislation and to sharpen and regularly repeat their midterm message–outlining Democratic successes in terms the electorate understands and clearly painting the massive differences between them and obstructionist Republicans. So, keep calling your MoCs using this week’s Daily Action scripts.
And, since the Senate will vote Monday on The Women’s Health Protection Act (S.1975) that safeguards abortion nationwide, demand they support this legislation too.

Defending Democracy at Home and Abroad
Putin’s invasion of Ukraine starkly demonstrates the conflict between democracy and dictatorship. Biden has committed the US to protecting democracy, and Americans must stand behind him. We must continue to do so, even if, as Biden has warned, protecting Ukraine’s fragile democracy will likely come with a cost at home.

Democrats Need A Crash Course in Sales and Sound Bites
Democrats need to present our accomplishments and strengths more clearly than we have in the past. So too, our Members of Congress must speak to successes and party unity rather than allow the GOP to control the discourse and define us.

PRICE GOUGING FUELS INFLATION
Companies are making record profits because they are charging more, a lot more. Tyson, for example, jumped its meat prices 31.7% in one year. The sticker prices leading to eye–popping profits are set far beyond increases in the inflated cost of labor and materials.

FRIDAY RECAP: February 18, 2022
No matter the chatter in Washington, we must keep pressing our Members of Congress to move forward on progressive legislation and work hard to convince Americans to register and vote, so we can elect progressives at all governmental levels. Check out Action 3’s suggestions of how to get involved and keep calling your MoCs using this week’s Daily Action scripts. Whatever the script, also stress the need for them and Biden to remind voters how Dems are working to improve our lives.

LOWERING PRESCRIPTION COSTS SAVES LIVES
Families should not have to choose between paying their bills or buying their medications. Lowering prescription drug prices is a win for all Americans from a health standpoint and to cut down inflation. We must push our members of Congress to to pass the segment of the BBB plan that would lower our costs for medication by allowing the government to negotiate pharmaceutical prices.

IT’S TIME TO LEGALIZE MARIJUANA
With nearly all Americans able to buy marijuana, it shouldn’t be classified as a “dangerous and addictive drug” like heroin. But multiple state laws about weed conflict with tthis view. These laws prevent research and therapies, big investments and big tax revenues. It’s time for a change.

THE SUPREME COURT GOES FULL MAGA
The Supreme Court’s use of the shadow docket to permit Alabama to shove 27% of its voters who are black into just 1 of its 9 districts—which even the 2 Trump appellate court judges agreed was clearly racial gerrymandering—signals the death knell of the Voting Rights Act and the Court’s return to the Jim Crow era. To prevent further erosion of our rights and the rule of law, Congress must pass the updated Voting Rights Act and rebalance the Supreme Court.

FRIDAY RECAP: February 11, 2022
Washington may be focused on a possible Russian invasion of Ukraine and racist Senators’ attacks on Biden’s not-yet-named Supreme Court nominee, but we must continue to press our Members of Congress to move forward on progressive legislation. At the same time, we must work hard to convince Americans of the need to register and to vote, so we can elect progressives at all governmental levels. Check out Action 3’s suggestions of how to get involved and keep calling your MoCs. Whatever the script, stress the need for them and Biden to remind voters how Dems are working to improve our lives.
