FRIDAY RECAP: MARCH 4, 2022

Putin is an “implacable enemy of democracy,” said former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. Ukraine is paying the price for adopting the freedom to decide its own fate. (Tuesday’s Daily Action: UKRAINE IS DEMOCRACY’S BATTLEGROUND) For decades, Putin has been fighting a shadow war to divide and destabilize free nations. In the US, his efforts have radicalized fringe Republicans. The Putin Republicans are successfully dismantling democracy’s most fundamental right, the right to vote, in many states.
“UKRAINE IS FIGHTING FOR ALL OF US.” The heroic resolve of Ukrainians to defend their homeland is part of a much larger struggle between democracy and dictatorship. We must call out Putin’s invasion of Ukraine and vigorously support the Biden Administration’s commitment to defend Ukraine, NATO and the G-7. While protecting democracy here and abroad will come with a cost, we must accept this challenge.
And Biden has nominated a former public defender, Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson, who we believe will be A SUPREME COURT JUSTICE FOR US ALL. The Supreme Court should reflect the diversity of the public it serves—but it never has. Jackson’s commitment to fairness, impartiality, and equal justice for all—is a long overdue first step towards diversifying the Court.
We also must start focusing on the 2022 midterms.. We must commit to electing progressives at all levels. In the Daily Action, Action 3 provides suggestions for how to get involved in this fight.
Between now and November we must keep pushing our MoCs–to pass needed legislation and tout all we’ve accomplished so far, despite GOP obstruction. So, no matter how often you’ve called this week, commit to calling at least once more. And whatever the script, keep stressing the need for them and President Biden to remind voters how Dems are working to improve our lives.
