A SUPREME COURT JUSTICE FOR US ALL

Ketanji Brown Jackson, the first black woman nominated to the Supreme Court, will be a fierce advocate for the American people

QUICK READ: The Supreme Court should reflect the diversity of the public it serves—but it never has. Biden’s nomination of Ketanji Brown Jackson—an exceptionally well qualified attorney with an extensive judicial record demonstrating her commitment to fairness, impartiality, and equal justice for all—is a long overdue first step towards diversifying the Court.

TAKE ACTION NOW:

BACKGROUND

All Americans, whatever our color or background, deserve Supreme Court justices who represent our multicultural society and are committed to providing equal justice for everyone—not just the rich and powerful.

The Court does this best by reflecting the diverse experiences of the public it serves, because those judges bring to the bench inevitably shape how they understand the law and facts before them.

Biden’s nomination of Ketanji Brown Jackson—an exceptionally well qualified attorney with an extensive judicial record demonstrating her commitment to fairness, impartiality, and equal justice for all—is a long overdue first step.

As the first public defender and only second nominee with extensive civil rights experience, and a successful navigator of racism and sexism, she understands the real-life impacts of judicial decisions—fueling GOP racist tropes that she’s a “left-wing” radical soft on crime and terrorism.

These experiences make her a formidable advocate for the American people and for battling the blatant racism and sexism fueling the right-wing Justices’ attacks on our fundamental rights, but they won’t transform the Court

The Court’s integrity can only be restored by its expansion, which requires the election of additional progressive Senators willing to gut the filibuster.

ACTION One: Call the Senate.

Script for Oregon Senators

SEN. MERKLEY: Portland office: 503-326-3386 | D.C. office: 202-224-3753

My name is [--] and I'm a constituent from [city], Oregon [zip code].

The Senate must move immediately to confirm Judge Ketanji Jackson Brown, which is a long overdue first step towards ensuring the Supreme Court truly reflects the country it serves. The promise of equal justice for all, however, will remain illusory without the Court’s expansion. For these reasons, I urge you to co-sponsor the Judiciary Act of 2021 (S.1141) and work for its speedy passage.

SEN. WYDEN:
