FRIDAY RECAP: october 14, 2022
Every week, the differences between Republican and Democrat visions become clearer. Biden and the Democrats want to end hunger in America and extreme income inequality, while Republicans are committed to protecting white evangelicals and the rich and powerful. Democrats and most Americans are outraged that the Supreme Court’s ultraconservative supermajority are threatening our freedoms. And progressive Democrats want Biden to declare a climate emergency so that we can attack climate change more aggressively, while Republicans are not only in bed with fossil-fuel industries but actually deny the existence of a climate crisis. Between now and November 8 our Members of Congress need to educate Americans about these differences, and each of us needs to work as hard as we can to elect more Democrats who share our vision for America’s future. So, check out this week’s Daily Actions and get to work defending democracy.

End Price Gouging
Corporate greed is hammering working American families who struggle to make ends meet and rebuild their lives after the COVID economic downturn. Its effects can be seen in steep rises of prices at the pump and spikes in mortgage rates.

REMEMBER WHO REPUBLICANS REALLY ARE
Republicans still worship the tyrannical tycoon who sold himself as America’s great White hope. Called by their leader, the Jan. 6 insurrectionists, who ransacked the Capitol, were actually attacking American democracy. The Jan. 6 committee will hold what may be its final meeting on the insurrection tomorrow. Tune in.

CONGRESS MUST PERMANENTLY PROTECT UNDOCUMENTED IMMIGRANTS
The vast majority of Americans favor a pathway to citizenship for undocumented immigrants and believe immigrants make our country stronger, but GOP-controlled states have been trying to kill DACA since its promulgation in 2012. The Fifth Circuit’s recent decision affirming DACA’S illegality likely signed its death warrant, unless Congress steps in to protect immigrants and their families, the communities they serve, and the economic benefits they provide to our country. Only increased Democratic majorities in Congress will make this possible.

What We’ve Accomplished Is A Mere Drop In The Ocean
Despite bold strides taken by the current administration on climate change, we are still in a crisis of epic proportions. We are asking President Biden to declare a climate emergency in order to promote urgent change through executive action.

THE MAGA SUPREME COURT RIPS AMERICA APART
The Supreme Court is now “more politically polarized than at any point in more than three decades of polling,” Pew research found. Its decisions now closely conform to the views of the average Republican, not the average American. But as the Court’s current term unfolds, it has only one asset to protect, and that is the public’s trust in the Court. This trust is already badly battered, but, if the Court continues to pursue its conservative agenda, that trust will evaporate.

HUNGRY CHILDREN AND EXTREME INCOME INEQUALITY ARE UNAMERICAN
Last week President Biden unveiled a plan to end hunger in America by 2030. He announced a public-private partnership to make healthful food more affordable and accessible and pushed Congress to make the child tax credit permanent, raise the minimum wage to $15/hour, and expand nutrition assistance programs, all of which will help reduce the obscene concentration of wealth now characterizing American society. To attack these problems requires more Democrats in Congress, because Republicans serve only the rich and powerful. Our Members of Congress must carry this message to American voters.

FRIDAY RECAP: September 30 , 2022
Every week, the differences between Republican and Democrat visions of government become clearer. Republicans are blocking or filibustering Democrats’ proposals that would improve all of our lives. They’re using traumatized immigrants as political pawns to scare voters. And they’ve vowed to eliminate programs that benefit working class Americans. Biden and the Democrats, by contrast, favor strong unions, affordable health care, a robust social safety net, and a welcoming immigration system, and they’re working to rebuild America and prepare us for future challenges. We need to tell our Members of Congress what we want and need and work to elect more Democrats who share our vision. So, check out this week’s Daily Actions and get to work defending democracy,

WHAT MAGA WANTS
Biden’s agenda is out for all to see, including rebuilding America and preparing for the challenges ahead. Republicans, however, are having a hard time settling on one “contract” with Americans and have proposals all over the map. Hard to find in those proposals are ideas for paying for their wishlist.

CONGRESS MUST ADDRESS IMMIGRATION REFORM
By turning traumatized Venezuelan asylum seekers into political pawns, Florida’s MAGA Governor, Ron DeSantis, has refocused voters’ attention on our failure to address immigration reform. Biden’s proposed legislation is languishing in Congress, and MAGA courts have stymied his attempts to humanize our immigration system. To create a welcoming immigration system, which most Americans want, we must elect more Democrats to the House and the Senate who share this vision.

BIDEN IS REBUILDING AMERICA FROM THE MIDDLE-OUT
Beneath the furor of today’s public debates, President Biden has quietly changed American life. He has shepherded proposals through a deeply divided Congress and signed executive orders that are improving lives in Red and Blue communities alike. His efforts have produced the best growth record since Clinton.

FRIDAY RECAP: September 23, 2022
Every week, the differences between Republican and Democrat visions of government, and it’s impact on people, become more stark. Republicans are showing what they don’t want our future to be by blocking or filibustering Democrats’ proposals on strengthening voting rights, ending gerrymandering, banning assault weapons and more. Their sharpest picture for a Republican future is captured in the abortion ruling from the extremist Supreme Court. And while Republicans are shaping a future to protect rich white men, Biden was full on supporting democracy and freedom from oppression in Ukraine. This is just one week’s picture of the day after the election, so get to work to defend democracy.

BIDEN DESERVES CREDIT FOR UKRANIAN POLICY
President Biden's foreign policies, particularly about Ukraine, have been highly successful even though he does not always receive credit for them.

ABORTION, AND GOVERNMENT BY THE MINORITY
The Supreme Court is unwinding the America we know. It has already unleashed abortion bans across the country. But this ultra-conservative court is far from done. Beginning in October, the Justices will hear cases challenging partisan redistricting, threats to free speech, a challenge to the Anti-Discrimination Act and more. We must find the strength to keep fighting for our democracy. Join any one of the thousands of groups across the country to fight for our way of life.
