QUICK READ: Beneath the furor of today’s public debates, President Biden has quietly changed American life. He has shepherded proposals through a deeply divided Congress and signed executive orders that are improving lives in Red and Blue communities alike. His efforts have produced the best growth record since Clinton.

BACKGROUND

President Biden is quietly leading America into a new era that makes equity and fairness the nation’s top economic objectives. 

Hundreds of billions are rolling out to rebuild the middle class while making the wealthy pay their fair share of taxes.

Investments in America include: 

  • Billions to rebuild roads and bridges, modernize ports and airports, replace lead pipes for clean water, and expand high-speed internet to all Americans. 

  • Forgiving student loans for tens of millions of borrowers, placing the first price controls on pharmaceuticals, and launching America’s largest ever response to climate change.

  • And much more.

The course Biden has set faces huge uncertainties, including new explosions of Covid, Russia’s threat to use nukes in Ukraine, and stubborn inflation, and exposing Republican lies and misinformation. But Biden has driven pandemic numbers to new lows. And his response to Putin has united allies with his bold commitment to democracy everywhere. 

Nevertheless, inflation lingers. It’s always been beyond the control of any White House, and the Fed may be unable to control it if raising interest rates fails. Even if its remedy succeeds, it will cause the most acute economic pain to American workers – the very people Biden seeks to help most.
