The foundation of the Republican party was revealed this week at the confirmation hearing of Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson, and that foundation is deeply racist. Republicans alleged she was soft on crime and, maybe, not a loyal American. Worse, they said, she may have a plan to splice critical race theory into law.

Inflation has many causes including long-term structural supply chain issues exacerbated by the pandemic, corporate greed, and the Russian sanctions. The best short-term fix for American families is to shore up their buying power by lowering the costs of essential expenses like prescription drugs, child care, health care, and energy. We are living through historic events. Remember when we thought Trump’s election was the worst that could happen? Then Covid. Then the sacking of the Capitol. Now, Ukraine. Through all of this, the disinformation machines were spitting lies. This is a sanctuary of truth. The GOP playbook is tired and uninspired. Most Americans don’t believe in banning books, prosecuting the parents of trans kids, or excluding Black history. They want reproductive freedom. They believe in LGBTQ rights. Rather than getting distracted by rightwing spitting lies and fury, let’s speak persuasively about our ideas—WE ARE THE MAJORITY!

With Biden’s climate agenda stalled in the Senate and the Supreme Court likely to cut back the Environmental Protection Agency’s authority, bold executive action is necessary. Declaration of a national climate emergency would, as Rep. Blumenauer explains, allow Biden to “unleash every resource at our disposal to halt, reverse, mitigate, and prepare for the consequences of this climate crisis.”

The Supreme Court should reflect the diversity of the public it serves—but it never has. Biden’s nomination of Ketanji Brown Jackson—an exceptionally well qualified attorney with an extensive judicial record demonstrating her commitment to fairness, impartiality, and equal justice for all—is a long overdue first step towards diversifying the Court.

The heroic resolve of Ukrainians to defend their homeland is part of a much larger struggle between democracy and dictatorship. We must call out Putin’s invasion of Ukraine and vigorously support the Biden Administration’s commitment to defend Ukraine, NATO and the G-7. While protecting democracy here and abroad will come with a cost, we must accept this challenge.
