FRIDAY RECAP: MARCH 11, 2022

We are living through historic events. Remember when we thought Trump’s election was the worst that could happen? Then Covid. Then the sacking of the Capitol. Now, Ukraine. Through all of this, the disinformation machines were spitting lies. This is a sanctuary of truth. Well before Putin’s army rolled into Ukraine, President Biden was quietly preparing for war. In December, and maybe earlier, Biden sent advanced arms to Ukraine and helped them prepare for urban warfare. Then, almost from the moment Russian forces launched their invasion, the global community, organized by Biden, imposed unprecedented, massive sanctions that are biting hard. We can’t forget the other crisis facing us all, global warming. With Biden’s climate agenda stalled in the Senate and the Supreme Court likely to cut back the Environmental Protection Agency’s authority, bold executive action is necessary. A declaration of a national climate emergency would, as Rep. Good news in yesterday’s DA. The Putin Republicans war on history is a battle the GOP is losing, by a lot. The GOP playbook is tired and uninspired. Most Americans don’t believe in banning books, prosecuting the parents of trans kids, or excluding Black history. They want reproductive freedom. They believe in LGBTQ rights. Rather than getting distracted by rightwing spitting lies and fury, let’s speak persuasively about our ideas—WE ARE THE MAJORITY!. We also must start focusing on the 2022 midterms.. We must commit to electing progressives at all levels. In the Daily Action, Action 3 provides suggestions for how to get involved in this fight for democracy, in Ukraine and here.

Between now and November we must keep pushing our MoCs–to pass needed legislation and tout all we’ve accomplished so far, despite GOP obstruction. So, no matter how often you’ve called this week, commit to calling at least once more. And whatever the script, keep stressing the need for them and President Biden to remind voters how Dems are working to improve our lives.
