FRIDAY RECAP: october 28, 2022
The upcoming midterm elections are the most important of our lifetimes, since they will determine whether our constitutional democracy survives. While Democrats want to protect and strengthen our democracy, MAGA Republicans want to ensure that only they get the chance to govern, no matter the actual votes. This week’s DAs speak to these issues. Pick one or more of them for additional calls to your Members of Congress. Even if you know they share your position, hearing from you strengthens their resolve. If these 3 DAs don’t move you, pick an issue you find important and tell your MOC how you feel about it. Then work to support democracy’s survival by canvassing, phoning voters, joining Indivisible Oregon or another group, and writing postcards and letters to voters to infrequent voters in battleground states and districts.
This week’s Daily Actions included:
october 25: PRO-DEMOCRACY’S BETTER STRATEGY
Americans are being offered the choice between liberal democracy and fascism. If we are going to win the hearts and minds of Americans, we need to understand better why people respond to GOP packaging and outdo them. Anand Giridharadas has offered us many useful tools to consider. Check out Tuesdays’ DA.
October 26: THE GOP WILL BRUTALIZE THE MIDDLE CLASS AND (FURTHER) ENRICH THE RICH
Usually, Republicans hide their economic agenda until after the election. Not this time. It’s all on display now. In sum, it would hammer the vulnerable and boost the rich and, oh yes, sacrifice Ukraine. Everyone should be clear about who and what they are voting for. Check out Wednesday’s DA.
October 27: ONLY THE DEMOCRATS WILL FIGHT INFLATION AND CONTINUE WORKING TO IMPROVE OUR LIVES
Democrats have just 12 days left to convince the American electorate that they, alone, have the will to combat corporate greed (which is fueling inflation), to ensure that we all have the right to economic security, and to protect our fundamental freedoms (including abortion), our democracy, our voting rights, the integrity of our elections and the peaceful transfer of power. Check out Thursday’s DA.
Then choose one or more of these topics, or use your concerns, and call your members of Congress.
