IT’S THE ECONOMY, STUPID

Only the Democrats are proposing policies that can reduce inflation and create a more equitable economy for all Americans.

QUICK READ: “This election is “a choice between two vastly different visions for America. Democrats are building a better America for everyone with an economy that grows from the bottom up and the middle out, where everyone does well. Republicans are doubling down on their mega MAGA trickle-down economics that benefits the very wealthy.” President Biden, October 27, 2022.

BACKGROUND

All Americans deserve economic security. Despite gains over the last two years, our wages are being eaten up by rising prices, making many receptive to the false narrative that only Republicans can slow inflation.

History demonstrates otherwise:

  •  9 of the last 10 recessions occurred under GOP Presidents

  • The national debt rises under Republicans, shrinks under Democrats

  •  Our economy’s always healthier during Democratic administrations.

Their plan to fight inflation is what Republicans always propose—cutting taxes for the rich and cutting or eliminating Social Security, Medicare and the other vital programs helping the rest of us—which would inflict severe economic pain and actually increase inflation.

Democrats, by contrast, will continue rebuilding the economy that created 10 million new jobs and lowering the cost-of-living, if they hold Congress:

  • Extend the Child Tax Credit, that lifted 3 million children out of poverty, and expand the Earned Income Tax Credit for low and middle-income workers

  • Protect Social Security and Medicare by fully funding expanded benefits for decades

  • Ensure fair taxation

  • Bring down inflation with anti-price gouging legislation anti-trust enforcement to encourage competition

  • Keep addressing income inequality and systemic racism.

The choice cannot be starker, and our MoCs must continue hammering home this message.

ACTION One: Call the Senate.

Thank you for all you’ve done to spread the Democrats’ economic messaging, but we cannot let up. Between now and November 8 please amp up this message explaining to voters Democrats’ plans to improve their lives if they can keep control of Congress and the disastrous effects for all but the very rich of a MAGA Republican takeover.

All GOP: Voters are too smart to believe that your party has any real plans to combat inflation. If you are willing to engage in debt-ceiling brinkmanship that could very well cause a global recession just to destroy the social services you can’t eliminate legislatively, you do not deserve to be a member of Congress.
