THE SUPREME COURT IS ON THE BALLOT
QUICK READ: SCOTUS’ MAGA supermajority is already implementing Trump’s highly unpopular and extremely dangerous Project 2025 policies. To stop Trump and the MAGA supermajority from further taking away our freedoms requires meaningful structural reforms—a binding, enforceable Ethics Code and term limits for the Justices and Court rebalancing—which can only happen with Democratic control of Congress and the White House.
CONTENTS:
BACKGROUND
Trump’s Project 2025, the Christo-fascist blueprint for America’s future, seeks to eliminate vulnerable communities’ civil rights, impose an evangelical Christianity-based view of the family and equality, dismantle the regulatory state, and create an imperial presidency whose Justice Department will do his bidding.
Since Trump’s three MAGA Justices joined SCOTUS, the 6-3 ultra-conservative supermajority, acting like power-hungry, partisan policymakers rather than as one of the three co-equal branches of government, have been laying the groundwork for Project 2025’s implementation:
Creating a monarchical presidency, by inventing a sweeping doctrine of presidential immunity;
Striking down affirmative action;
Limiting Congress’ ability to write broad laws that apply in many settings;
Hobbling federal agencies’ authority to apply statutes to real-life problems by giving unelected judges, rather than experts, the power to interpret them;
Leaving America awash in deadly weapons;
Congress cannot continue allowing the unpopular, unaccountable MAGA-packed Court and its corrupt Justices to write their own rules and consolidate their power. But until Democrats control Congress and the Presidency, even President Biden’s demand for enactment of an enforceable ethics code and 18-year term limits goes nowhere—which is why SCOTUS is on the ballot.
While a good first step, without a rebalancing of SCOTUS to offset Trump’s court packing, even Trump’s defeat would not end the Court’s implementation of Project 2025.
