REPUBLICANS KILL VOTING PROTECTIONS SIMPLY TO PROTECT THEIR POWER
The GOP is being dragged down by a dwindling voter base so they are rigging elections.
QUICK READ: Elections are supposed to be competitions of ideas with the majority deciding what’s best for them and the country. That’s the theory. Faced with a shrinking voter base, Republicans are going all out to pass laws that exclude Democratic voters. Dems are fighting to protect the right to vote and fair vote counting. But the GOP is blocking those efforts too.
TAKE ACTION NOW:
BACKGROUND
Yes, democracy is on fire, again. (It’s a sign of Republican desperation.)
This time, the right to vote -- the foundation of our communal decision-making -- is threatened.
Many white Americans, fearful of losing their status, have been driven by the GOP propaganda machine to pass state “election integrity” laws.
In truth, these laws are designed to sabotage elections and hand Republicans majorities in Congress in 2022, and the White House in 2024.
Democratic bills now in Congress would protect people who want to vote, and ensure their votes are counted fairly. All have been blocked by Republicans using a loophole, the “filibuster,” to prevent even their debate.
The Senate’s filibuster loophole is a longstanding tool created by racist, white patricians to stop a bill’s progress even if it has majority support.
So, today, while Democrats in the Senate represent 41.5 million more Americans, the GOP is using its old trick to hold onto power, since shifting demographics suggest it may never win the popular vote in a national election again.
GOP politicians have become dependent on lies, especially the Big Lie. And the lies have been recycled (quite profitably) by their propaganda machines.
The filibuster loophole must be dismantled to allow majority rule.
