Background

Tomorrow is a new day for America. The list of urgent actions is packed. The most crucial is Biden’s Covid response plan.

But as we dig out of the Trump era, we cannot leave unattended the vulnerabilities that nearly toppled our democracy. Our progressive agenda reinforces democracy.

An essential first step is passing the For the People Bill. The bill, HR1, would:

Strengthen voting protections
Dismantle gerrymandering
Clean-up campaign finances
Impose new ethics requirements across the government, including the judiciary and executive branches.

Still, subduing Covid is the foundation for all else. And Biden’s Covid package is, at long last, a rational response.

His 100 million vaccination goal is the last hope for defeating the pandemic because all other options have been ignored or tragically executed. And the massive infusion of cash is both compassionate for families and vital for struggling governments and the rapidly deteriorating economy.

Congress must approve the $1.9 trillion package. This will be a heavy lift, especially in the Senate which is already obligated to confirm Biden’s cabinet nominees and to try the impeached President.

Call your MoCs and remind them, again and again, to fix the flaws that nearly destroyed democracy. Begin with HR1.
