Remembrance & Hope

Background
As we celebrate the birth of Martin Luther King Jr., we are reminded that racism is a toxic and pervasive part of America's past and, sadly, its present. Rather than dwelling on the horrors he experienced and witnessed, MLK devoted his life to service to the beloved community in hope that, working together, a more just America could be achieved.
Half a century after MLK's assassination, we continue to face a crisis of white supremacy. Elected officials entrusted to protect America instead incited and enabled in a deadly insurrection in the name of preserving white supremacy and white minority rule.
Today we remember MLK's legacy and celebrate hope -- hope that, working together in service to our shared community, we can move forward with new leadership to create a more racially, economically, and environmentally just society. In the words of MLK: "Peace is not the absence of tension, it is the presence of justice."
Join us in a day of service (in-person or remote), a week celebrating hope, and our on-going advocacy for justice.
