BIDEN’S INFRASTRUCTURE PLAN REVIVES PUBLIC HEALTH SO EVERYONE CAN THRIVE
Jump to today’s actions:
Background
The purpose of government is to do the things collectively that individuals can’t do by themselves. One of those things is safeguarding the public’s health.
President Biden’s $2.3 trillion infrastructure plan is a massive investment in the country’s crumbling roads and bridges, dangerous water systems, and our vulnerable electric grid.
There are also direct investments in public health. A partial list includes:
Pandemic prevention and preparedness to replenish stockpiles, strengthen hospital infrastructure, invest in vaccine development, restore supply chains.
Community health centers expansion that now serves 20% of America’s rural populations, 91% impoverished.
Expand home health care by creating jobs and raising wages for home care workers.
But there are also other investments that may have equally significant impacts on the nation’s health. A few of these include:
Reduction in fossil fuel use, which kills 10,000 people daily.
Expanding broadband access boosting telehealth and medical resource access.
Improving schools to teach children the value of healthy eating and regular exercise.
Boosting R&D funding for breakthrough medicines and technologies.
Attacking racism, which drives health inequities, in the workplace and home.
Biden’s infrastructure plan recognizes that health is the foundation of the future of America.

I thank the Senator for committing to a recovery that strengthens our wobbly public health infrastructure. Among other goals in Biden’s infrastructure plan is racial justice. To pass the infrastructure bill and to achieve racial justice, the filibuster must be reformed. We need a government that protects the health of all of us.
