TODAY’S VIOLENCE AGAINST ASIANS WAS IGNITED BY TRUMP. WE CAN END IT.

Background
The murders of six Asian women could divide us further unless we remember what Kamala Harris said in Atlanta this week: “A harm against any one of us is a harm against all of us.”
America has a long history of violence against Asians. But the latest explosion of anti-Asian hate was ignited last March when Trump attributed all the suffering of the pandemic to the “Chinese virus.”
The sentiment quickly spiked on Twitter and was amplified by Fox News. Nine months later, while other hate crimes dropped, Anti-Asian violence soared 150%.
Trump’s seeds of hate infected millions including madmen. And in America even madmen have easy access to guns.
Hate is a feature of our politics. As well as being deadly, violent social divisions can destroy a democracy.
Existing hate crime laws appear unable to prevent hate crimes. In fact, legal experts argue that in America violent rhetoric may be free speech.
That’s not true in other countries. Germany, for example, made incitement to hate a crime punishable by up to five years imprisonment and penalties for social media platforms up to $50 million.
Trump Republicans made hate patriotic. We can stop it. Join anti-hate demonstrations and stand for our united states.
