FRIDAY RECAP: September 16, 2022
Every week, the likelihood that Democrats will retain control of Congress looks more and more possible. Gas prices continue to decline, the possible strike by rail unions has been averted, more and more jobs are being created. Americans are very upset by the Supreme Court’s rulings, especially its reversal of women’s right to control their reproductive health, and are beginning to understand the enormous threat to democracy posed by MAGA Republicans. Between now and November, we must do our utmost to ensure that Americans turn out to vote in the upcoming midterm election—by peppering our yards with our candidates’ lawn signs, by writing letters and postcards to voters in battleground states, and by phone banking to likely voters in Oregon and elsewhere. While you’re finding out how to get involved, don’t forget to also call your Members of Congress about the topics we highlighted this week.
Tuesday - BIDEN PREPARES FOR OUR BLISTERING FUTURE
We’ve been ignoring the warnings of scientists for the last 50 years, which is being seen and felt wordwide—threatening lives, food supplies, and power generation, for example. We cannot continue to buy GOP lies. Instead, we must protect the future for the generations that follow us. We still have a lot of work to do. Check out Tuesday’s Daily Action,
Wednesday - MAGA JUDGES ARE DESTROYING OUR JUDICIAL SYSTEM
In “normal” times, Donald Trump wouldn’t withhold his presidential records from the National Archives or steal national defense secrets, leave them lying around his country club, conceal this behavior, and then lie about it when caught. Nor would he be able to shop around for a Trumpist judge who would accept that the documents might belong to him and give him “special treatment” not accorded to other common thieves. Congress must act to protect national security, prevent blatant judge-shopping, and remake the federal bench. Check out Wednesday’s DA.
THURSDAY - AMERICANS WANT MARRIAGE EQUALITY
The ongoing war in the Ukraine, once again, highlights Trump’s support for an authoritarian regime, be they in Russia, North Korea, or Brazil. Meanwhile, President Biden has been a vigorous defender of democracy at home or abroad. Read Thursday’s DA. Then call.
