Campaigning Republicans are now hiding their position on abortion and more – waiting until after the election to strike

QUICK READ: Today, three weeks before the midterm elections, President Biden will remind voters that Republicans want a national abortion ban. This election is about many issues, but abortion tells us everything we need to know about how Republicans will hide their positions and then impose the minority’s extreme views on us all. That’s not democracy. It’s fundamentally unAmerican. Volunteer and boost the Democrat of your choice.

BACKGROUND

The right to an abortion is fast disappearing. It may only be the first of our rights to go, as extreme candidates hide their positions and wait until after the election to pounce. 

Already, 26 states have placed bans or new restrictions on the procedure. Twelve are being challenged in court, but many are likely to survive with the Supreme Court’s blessing. 

One US Senator is even pushing his bill to outlaw abortion nationwide. 

In response, women have overwhelmed voter registration sites as they rush to keep their state from imposing bans, or to reverse the bans Republican legislatures are erecting. 

It may not be enough. Even in Oregon, Republicans pour ”astounding” amounts of money into Oregon state elections. 

Their next targets: Voting rights. Immigrants. Minorities. Teachers. Poor people. Non-Christians. Librarians. The educated. Democracy supporters. 

The replacements: Liars. Bigots. Proud Boys. The super Righteous. And the super-rich.

Other countries at other times have suffered through this nightmare before. “First they came for . . . and I did not speak out.” Then they came for me.

Right now, women, it’s always women, who are targeted and, thankfully, responding by flooding voter registration offices.

We must hang together with all Americans and fight through these elections. And the next. For choice. For the vote. For all Americans.
