Climate action is essential for survival

BACKGROUND
News: Global warming is overwhelming the world’s ability to respond.
Driving the news: Heat domes, wildfires, crop loss, megadroughts, and billions of sea creatures cooking to death. These billion-dollar disasters will total $1.3 trillion by 2026. An estimated 83 million people will die from global warming in the next 80 years.
Context:
The heat dome in the Pacific Northwest killed 800 people, and scientists estimate that millions more will die if we don’t act quickly.
Hundreds of water wells have gone dry in Oregon, part of a 400-year megadrought impacting 60 million Americans from Montana to New Mexico.
Although Oregon’s snow levels were above normal, they are disappearing so quickly that scientists expect a rapid glacier melt-off this year.
Watch: Some good climate news is buried in the Senate’s $1 trillion infrastructure package, i but it is a long, long way from reconstructing America’s infrastructure. Its passage requires Republican support (never a sure thing) and that of a few troublesome Dems (yes, we’re looking at you Kyrsten Sinema).
Act: Call your MoCs and demand they act with the same urgency Rep. Cori Bush showed in demanding an extended eviction moratorium. And, don’t forget to push for voting rights legislation.

3. Take Action
To preserve our freedom to vote, Congress must hear from constituents across the country. Please email/text this action to 5 friends in other states – especially those in red states – and ask them to call today. Then, contact your state representatives and tell them to go to DC to support the Texas legislators who fled the state to stop voter suppression.
