THANKS AND KEEP FIGHTING FOR MORE COVID RELIEF
Jump to today’s actions:
Background
Congress’s Covid-19 relief bill will certainly help, but it’s late and far too limited to stop the damage sweeping across the country.
We need to thank Democrats for the best parts of the bill, and for beating back the liability shield for employers. Highlights besides the $500 direct payment and 11 weeks of unemployment:
funding for vaccine distribution above the estimate needed
15% more for food stamps allocations, and expansion to college students
$400m for food banks and $175m for Meals on Wheels
the rental assistance sought by advocates, though the moratorium on eviction lasts only a month
tighter controls on new PPP and loans to small businesses and non-profits
But so much more federal relief is needed, even without a mutated virus that is spreading 70% faster:
state and local funding
better health care coverage
more direct payments and coverage for adult dependents
longer extension of the renter eviction moratorium
more money for education plus student debt forgiveness
relief from funding Trump’s border wall; the additional $1.4b in a Covid bill is disgusting.
As we approach 2021, we need to tell our members of Congress to keep fighting for it all.
1. Call the Senate.

SEN. MERKLEY: Portland office: 503-326-3386 | D.C. office: 202-224-3753
My name is [--] and I'm a constituent from [city], Oregon [zip code].
Thank you for fighting for a better COVID relief bill. I think we agree that this package is much less than what’s needed, and that Congress has a long way to go before it has done everything it could. Please keep fighting for more generous federal relief: more relief for individuals and state, local, and tribal governments.

The COVID relief package is much less than what’s needed, and Congress has a long way to go before it has done everything it can. America needs more help for ordinary people who work for a paycheck, not big donors to the GOP.
We need a Congress that cares for us – that will appropriate and investigate for us. I ask the Senator to:
- Work for COIVD relief that helps people – survival checks, unemployment, vaccine distribution funds, eviction moratorium.
- Call on the Senate Intelligence Committee to investigate the Russian cyberattack.
2. Call the House.

I am sorry that the RESTAURANTS bill was not included. The deduction for the three-martini lunch is no substitute.
