TRUMP’S ATTEMPTED COUP MUST BE CONDEMNED AND INVESTIGATED

Background
We did an amazing job getting out the vote and electing Biden by widest majority ever. Now, we must ensure Trump’s attempted coup is unsuccessful and Biden can govern.
The crisis confronting our democracy isn’t merely Trump’s efforts (1) to steal the election by subverting election law, casting doubt on millions of properly cast ballots, and conspiring with local GOP officials to support these efforts and (2) to interfere with required orderly transition. Even worse are GOP enablers’ silence and facilitation of this unprecedented assault on our democracy.
While overturning the election’s unlikely, his misinformation campaign undermines voter confidence in our electoral system and conditions Trump voters to lose faith in democracy, despise Biden—which he couldn’t accomplish during the campaign— and to view his presidency as illegitimate.
Since failing to forcefully challenge Trump’s lies prevents Biden from effectively governing and erodes democratic norms, our MoCs must publicly correct the record and convince party leaders to implement a robust coordinated campaign. And, because Trump’s misuse of his office in furtherance of his attempted coup is much more impeachable than bullying Ukraine to smear his campaign rival, it requires immediate censure and transparent congressional investigations with all possible remedies considered.
