BACKGROUND

Democracy’s Value: Majority rules

News: New data reveals the GOP is a minority party. 

Context: To hold power for white voters, the GOP must keep Red states Red. So the 

GOP is dismantling fair elections, a strategy which the Supreme Court has upheld. Some of their tactics: 

  • Undermine truth by flooding the nation with lies and conspiracies to incite their voters.

  • Gerrymander this year to seize control of the House.

  • Rig voting systems.

  • If all else fails, resort to violence.

Why care: The foundations of democracy -- the freedom to vote and confidence in election results -- are in danger.

Our Defense: The For the People Act, passed by the House and now in the Senate (S.1), would set legal standards in states for federal elections. 
But: S.1 would not unwind the laws passed this year that rig state elections.

Act: Call your senators and tell them that S.1 needs to be amended to nullify laws rigging state elections passed this year.
