ABOLISH THE FILIBUSTER. PASS S1. SAVE DEMOCRACY
Jump to today’s actions:
Background
Abolish the filibuster. Save democracy. Those who wield the filibuster keep us from:
Voting
Reducing gun violence
Equal pay
LGBTQIA+ equality
DC Statehood
Protecting DREAMers
Politicians who wield the filibuster protect the corporations that buy them. To keep their power and donor money flowing, they must win elections at any cost. That’s why the pressure to stop the For the People Act (S1) is building – they hope we’ll give up.
They do not know of what we are made. We stand on the shoulders of activists before us – who led the months-long fight to defeat the filibuster to pass the 1960s Civil Rights Act and Voting Rights Act. We are joined by more than 300 advocacy, civic, faith, and labor groups who came together, urging President Biden to do everything in his power to pass S1. We are bolstered by our own Senator Merkley, chief sponsor of S1 and Chief Filibuster Antagonist.
Next week the Senate votes on S1. Just as we turned out to vote in record numbers in the middle of a pandemic, we come together now to abolish the filibuster and pass the For the People Act. Join us. Save democracy.
