Background
Indivisible Oregon's campaign to pass legislation that reforms and strengthens our democracy, the For the People Act (HR1/S1), begins today. The GOP's failure to hold their own accountable for blatant crimes against us underscores the urgency of this legislation.
HR1/S1 is federal legislation and thus overrides state GOP efforts to maintain minority rule through voter suppression laws. It removes dark money, restricts foreign donations, and establishes ethical codes at every level of government. Unsurprisingly, Republicans oppose it.
Over the next 3 weeks, we will advocate for the 3 sections of HR1/S1: voting, campaign finance, and ethics. This week, we will promote equitable and enhanced election access, integrity, and security.
Oregon leads the nation in how we register and vote, as well as in the security of our ballots. Our Oregon Democratic delegation can use Oregon's experience to lead Congress to pass HR1/S1.
Our support is essential to their effort. Our daily calls help them promote the bill to their colleagues. We'll also call voters in states with more reluctant MoCs.
We stand with our Oregon Democratic delegation and commit to working together with them to protect our democracy and pass the For the People Act.
