RAISING THE MINIMUM WAGE IS THE RIGHT THING TO DO FOR THE COUNTRY
Jump to today’s actions:
Background
The average minimum wage worker is 35 years-old and the primary support of their family. If the 1968 minimum wage had increased to match inflation and productivity it would now be $24/hour.
Enacting a $15/hour federal minimum wage as part of Bidens’ pandemic relief plan is the right thing to do because
The 32 million working Americans that it would affect have the right to provide housing and food security for themselves and their families.
Nearly ½ of all frontline essential workers, primarily people of color, now make less than a living wage.
It’s time to begin addressing racial injustice in economic policy. Because of systemic racial economic injustice 38.1 percent of Black workers make minimum wage.
It will help power economic recovery and will have long term benefits. A higher minimum wage will put cash into the hands of working families who will pump it right back into their local economies.
President Biden said that “No one working 40 hours a week should live below the poverty line.” The $15/hour minimum federal minimum wage included in his pandemic relief plan is an important step in the right direction. Our representatives in Congress must ensure that it passes.

President Biden said that “No one working 40 hours a week should live below the poverty line.” The $15/hour minimum federal minimum wage included in his pandemic relief plan is an important step in the right direction. The Senator must put the well-being of American workers above party politics. I want to thank the Representative for co-sponsoring the Raise the Wage Act in the House. President Biden said that “No one working 40 hours a week should live below the poverty line.” A $15/hour minimum federal minimum wage is an important step in the right direction. I am deeply disappointed that my Representative chose to stand against the well-being of Oregon workers and their families by voting against the Raise the Wage Act in the House. I insist that he begin to put his constituents over corporate donors and support not only a higher minimum wage but to start working on the behalf of working families.
