No COVID deal is better than a bad COVID deal.

Daily Action for Friday, August 7, 2020

caely.barrett@gmail.com

Background

No matter our ZIP code everyone deserves a chance to live up to their potential. COVID lays bare the fractures in America that have held so many back. COVID exposes how wealthy corporations and the politicians they pay for have been taking our money for decades, robbing us of schools, food, housing, and medical care. COVID shines a light on racist policies targeting Black, Indigenous and People of Color.

We can start to address corporate greed and racist policies with a good deal on the next COVID package. If we can get a good deal on a COVID package now, we set the stage for good deals across the country in the future.  Negotiations on the next COVID package are happening right now.

Please call all three of your Members of Congress. Then take action to help Get Out The Vote with Indivisible Oregon.

Why calling works

Calls are a flash poll for our Members of Congress. It’s how they keep track of what their bosses (us!) think. When we agree with them, our calls keep them going. When we don’t agree with them, our calls give them pause. Remember - they are getting calls on both sides of every issue, and we don’t want our opponent What we call about and how many times we call changes what happens in the halls of Congress!

1. Call the Senate.

+ Script for Sen. Merkley

Portland office: 503-326-3386

My name is [–] and I’m a constituent from [city], Oregon [zip code]. I am calling because…

COVID has laid bare corporate greed and racist policies in America. The next COVID package must include:

  • $600/week unemployment insurance through at least January 2021
  • eviction and foreclosure moratorium
  • no liability shield for employers
  • funding for:
    • SNAP
    • state, local, and tribal governments
    • USPS
    • vote by mail

A bad deal is worse than no deal at all, especially when people’s lives are at stake.
