Background
The assault on our Postal Service threatens the health and economic well-being of many Americans. Some of the most vulnerable to this threat are our military veterans.
The VA fills 80% of all prescriptions through centralized mail order facilities. More than 330,000 veterans depend on prescriptions delivered by the USPS daily.
Louis DeJoy, Trump’s new Postmaster General is a big donor political ally. He’s disrupting the post office to help Trump suppress mail-in voting in the election as well as encourage privatization.
He’s made changes designed to result in delays of days or weeks in mail delivery. And vets are suffering.
Not all meds can be reordered early, and many vets live too far from VA facilities to get life preserving prescriptions in person. Critical breaks in therapy and disruption of medication for chronic conditions are a serious threat to their health.
The USPS is one of the largest employers of veterans in the country. Attempts to privatize the USPS for corporate profit at the cost of union wage jobs threatens their economic well-being.
Sabotaging the Postal Service and purposefully delaying mail is criminal. It must be investigated, and the USPS must be protected by our representatives in Congress.
