Background
We all want to survive Covid-19 and its financial hurricane. But the GOP, after helping the rich in its first Covid bill, is now delaying help for the people who need it most.
With the daily assault from Trump’s deranged mind, it’s easy to be diverted from the millions of people struggling. They include the:
17 million who avoided poverty because of the $600 unemployment insurance (UI) supplement, that has now expired.
29 million Americans who went hungry at least one day in the previous week.
15 million people behind on rent.
House Democrats have passed the HEROES Act and await GOP Senators return from vacation. The HEROES act includes:
Restarting the $600 UI supplement,
$1200 checks to each taxpayer,
Money to support schools, states and local governments,
Food stamp enhancement,
Eviction moratorium and more.
Senate Majority Leader McConnell “must have” liability protection in any future Covid bill. A liability shield would immunize employers if they failed to provide workplace protections. Among other demands, Republicans want the $600 UI cut and cancel the $1200 checks.
