Background
The THRIVE Resolution (S. Res. 693) is an ambitious ten-year economic development plan that will reduce our national carbon footprint and rebuild our crumbling infrastructure. Legislation to enact it will create good-paying union jobs, address racial injustice and the public health crisis, and invest in Black, Brown and Indigenous communities.
Two strategies underpin the plan:
— Expand union organizing rights, so that employers can’t keep squeezing profits from workers. The minimum wage would be $44 today if it had increased at the same rate as Wall Street bonuses since 1985. THRIVE calls for passage of the Protecting the Right to Organize Act (PRO Act), the biggest expansion of union protections since WWII ended.
—Tax accumulated wealth to pay for things that everyone needs: roads, bridges, schools, water systems, energy grids, a habitable planet. Over the last 40 years, Congress torqued the tax code to extract eye-watering amounts of wealth from workers to benefit a small group of investor-employers. Paying for our dilapidated infrastructure should come from those who have too much and who have profited most.
Urge your MoCs to support the THRIVE Resolution, but also to pass new taxes and the PRO Act.
