FRIDAY RECAP: January 14, 2022
Democrats will be using a bicameral bill about NASA also containing the Freedom to Vote Act and the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act, that passed the House yesterday, to begin debating these voting rights acts with only a simple majority.
The vigorous Senate debate–the first one in this Congress–will begin next week, culminating in a motion to end debate, which Republicans will filibuster. Dems will then try to modify the filibuster to allow for an up-or-down vote.
This is the closest to passage we’ve come, making it imperative that we continue calling.
No matter how often you’ve called this week, commit to calling at least once more. And whatever script you use, be sure to remind your MoCs of the urgency of passing these two Acts.
Here are the great topics from which to choose:
Jan. 11: BIDEN BETS HIS PRESIDENCY ON DEFENDING ELECTIONS
Jan. 12: ENSHRINING THE RIGHT TO VOTE DETERMINES OUR COUNTRY’S DESTINY
Jan. 13: WEST VIRGINIANS SUFFER AS MANCHIN PANDERS TO HIS DONORS
So pick up your phone, click on your chosen link, and do your part to protect the vote and the integrity of our elections. And keep calling until all this is accomplished!
