NO MORE MAGA CHAOS: FUND THE GOVERNMENT NOW
QUICK READ: Congress has given itself six more weeks to fund the government. It’s time for MAGA Republicans to stop the chaos, accept the budget framework Congress passed in June, and let Congress do its job.
CONTENTS:
BACKGROUND
Hours before running out of money, Congress passed a continuing resolution (CR), giving itself until November 15 to fund the government through next September.
This latest manufactured crisis was caused by MAGA Republicans’ refusal to accept the Biden-McCarthy budget agreement that ended their May artificial debt-ceiling crisis and, by creating spending guidelines for the next two years, was supposed to prevent this one.
While the Senate’s proposed budget followed these guidelines, MAGA Republicans immediately rejected them, cutting an additional $120 billion and filling their proposed budget bills with poison pill policy riders.
At the last minute, Congress passed McCarthy’s 45-day CR, with FAA and National Flood Insurance Program extensions and disaster relief funding, but nothing for Ukraine. It also excluded additional money for mother-child nutrition (WIC), refugee resettlement, and childcare.
While the government’s temporarily open, the threat of a future shutdown remains, unless there’s another short-term CR or the budget’s approved.
The House’s fake impeachment inquiry, fights over McCarthy’s speakership and aid to Ukraine will consume much of the 6-weeks, leaving it little time to pass something acceptable to the Senate and Biden, especially given the vast difference between the two chambers.
Thus, in mid-November, we’ll face the same crisis.
Majorities in both chambers want the negotiated result, so let’s get it done.
ACTION One: Call the Senate.

Thank you for your continued commitment to protecting the needs of the American people and your success in avoiding a government shutdown, but the House is still being held hostage by MAGA extremists who don’t believe in governing. It is critical that you quickly pass aid to Ukraine and a final budget that’s consistent with the Biden-McCarthy agreement. The final budget must also include additional funding for WIC, the Office of Refugee Resettlement, and emergency childcare, which is needed to address serious problems facing our population and our cities.

{Thank the Senator if he/she voted for the CR]. I am heartened by the Senate’s bipartisanship and its commitment to creating a budget that follows the blueprint laid out in the Biden-McCarthy agreement. Continuing resolutions are not the way to run a government. Majorities in both chambers want aid for Ukraine and the budget they voted for in June, so let’s get it done.
ACTION TWO: Call the House.

Have you no shame? Don’t you care about your constituents? It is time that you separated yourself from the MAGA crazies who just want to burn everything down. Your constituents need the services the government provides. Majorities in both chambers want aid for Ukraine and the budget they voted for in June, so let’s get it done.
