BIDEN PREPARES FOR OUR BLISTERING FUTURE
The impacts of climate change are no longer theoretical but unfolding globally.
QUICK READ:
Quick read: We are 50 years beyond the warnings of scientists. The delay’s impact can be seen and felt worldwide, threatening lives, food supplies, power generation and much more. This isn’t the time to buy the lies of Republicans. It’s 50 years beyond the time to act. We have a responsibility to protect the future, as much as we can, for the children who are following us.
CONTENTS:
BACKGROUND
President Biden’s bold moves to prepare America for unprecedented climate change come not a moment too soon. The news globally is already horrific:
Severe heat waves and droughts across the EU and the U.S.
America’s infrastructure failing from California to Mississippi.
The Antarctic's “doomsday glacier” is projected to raise sea levels by 3 to 10 feet, retreating faster than predicted.
The damage is unfolding around the world. Assessing the floods in Pakistan, the UN chief said he had “never seen climate carnage” on such a scale.
China, the world’s #1 greenhouse gas producer, was hammered by a historic heat wave that limited or eliminated power from dams, cutting electricity across the country. Carmakers have closed plants, and rice crops are withering because of the soaring heat.
We’ve lost five decades because of the oil industry’s lies that gave Republicans cover for inaction. Consequently, as warming soars closer to tipping points, projected changes are probably irreversible:
States, including Texas and Florida, will lose millions of acres to rising seas.
Diminishing forests, which filter water and bind nutrients, threaten drinking water.
Countries supplying 70% of the world’s food face extreme heat risks.
We need to act, as Biden has done, on science-based guidance for the climate we have forever altered.
