SCOTUS must be structurally rebalanced to limit the power of this illegitimate supermajority—by adding 4 justices, limiting its jurisdiction and making it harder to find federal laws unconstitutional.

BACKGROUND
In back-to-back rulings last week, the MAGA extremists controlling SCOTUS, by misreading history and the Constitution and ignoring well-settled precedents, removed states’ ability to protect their citizens from deadly weapons while giving allowing them to force women to birth unwanted babies.
Both widely unpopular decisions rest on the absurd assumptions of “originalism,” which allows judges to impose their personal, unpopular views on society by claiming they represent the Framers’ intentions.
That they are only just beginning is suggested by Thomas’ desire to reexamine other privacy-based rights and the inclusion next year of cases on affirmative action and LGBTQ rights.
The MAGA majority exists only because McConnell manipulated the confirmation process for two seats and forced through the appointment of an accused sexual predator.
Congress cannot allow this continued destruction our rights, safety, and multiracial democracy. It must reassert itsConstitutional authority:
· Rebalancing SCOTUS by adding 4 justices,
· Limiting its jurisdiction and requiring supermajority votes on certain issues,
· Imposing term limits and an enforceable Code of Ethics,
· Impeaching/removing justices
· Passing legislation negating these decisions.
We must remind our MoCs of this duty and use SCOTUS’ illegitimacy to mobilize voters to elect Democrats who’ll eliminate the filibuster and fully protect our rights.
