CONGRESS MUST PROTECT WOMEN’S RIGHT TO CONTROL THEIR BODIES
The Senate must pass the Women’s Reproductive Health Act. Women and men across the country are demanding immediate action. The filibuster be damned.
QUICK READ: Justice Alito’s draft opinion overturning women’s right to control their reproduction ignores precedent, relies on a faulty reading of history, and will greatly harm the most vulnerable Americans and their families. All Senators who claim to care about women’s equality and the health and wellbeing of American families, whatever their party, must show American voters where they stand by passing the Women’s Reproductive Health Act, which will be voted on tomorrow, and working to expand SCOTUS with Justices willing to protect Americans’ fundamental rights.
TAKE ACTION NOW:
BACKGROUND
Although the vast majority of Americans don’t want abortions banned, five unelected MAGA Republicans with life tenure will soon eliminate the reproductive freedom of a majority of the 64 million American women and girls of reproductive age.
That all lied during their confirmation hearings, four were appointed by presidents who lost the popular vote, and two accused sexual predators (Kavanaugh and Thomas) helped take away women’s reproductive rights demonstrates SCOTUS’ illegitimacy.
The leaked opinion will have wide ranging effects on American society, women and their families, other constitutionally protected rights, the Senate’s functioning, SCOTUS’ future legitimacy, and the midterm elections, which our Daily Actions will continue to examine in the coming months.
At this moment, however, all eyes are on the Senate which will again try tomorrow to pass the Women’s Health Protection Act, which prohibits the 500+ restrictions and bans on abortion care enacted during the last decade.
MAGA Republicans blocked its consideration in February, and they’ll likely do it again, unless enough Senators agree protecting women’s personal autonomy is more important than the filibuster.
The vote will also demonstrate that elections matter and that protecting reproductive freedom requires expanding both House and Senate Democratic majorities and SCOTUS.
ACTION One: Call the Senate.
