PROTECT OUR VOTE FROM ELECTION SABOTAGE!

Stop Election Sabotage by the Radical Right and Pass the Freedom to Vote and the John Lewis Voting Acts

QUICK READ: In the aftermath of the 2020 Presidential election, states have rushed to pass laws that invite election sabotage by anti-democratic politicians. The Senate must pass the Freedom to Vote and the John Lewis Voting Rights Acts immediately before future elections are irreparably compromised.

TAKE ACTION NOW:

BACKGROUND

As Americans, we value our freedom to vote and have our votes counted. This cherished right is threatened by politicians who aspire to office despite holding unpopular positions. Fearing loss of power in fair elections, they plot to undermine confidence in election results by spreading the Big Lie (that rampant voter fraud stole Trump’s victory in the 2020 election) and launching fake “audits.”

Some citizens, radicalized by the Big Lie, began terrorizing election officials. As a result, the people who keep our electoral system working are leaving in droves. Partisan poll watchers, empowered by new state laws to challenge voters, are set to intimidate voters, particularly in communities of color.

This disinformation campaign also set the stage for a coordinated effort by Republican state legislatures to pass dozens of anti-democratic laws that would give them power to fine election workers for petty mistakes, replace local election boards, and even overturn election results.
We must fight these anti-democratic attacks by passing the Freedom to Vote and John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Acts. Republicans are using the filibuster to block Senate debate of these democracy strengthening bills. Democrats should change Senate rules and pass these critical bills without delay. American democracy is at stake.
