OUR GRATITUDE THIS THANKSGIVING

Despite these challenging times, we, as activists, have much to celebrate this Thanksgiving

QUICK READ: We thank our Members of Congress for all their hard work turning campaign promises into progressive legislation. We are especially grateful that Build Back Better, which will improve the lives of all of us, appears close to passage in the Senate. The Senate must retain all its provisions and then pass pending voting rights legislation.

TAKE ACTION NOW:

BACKGROUND

Our MoCs and their staffs who’ve worked tirelessly turning campaign promises into progressive legislation and our dedicated Indivisible Oregon volunteers and organizers who daily push them to work even harder.

This year’s many accomplishments:

  • The Biden-Harris victory

  • American Rescue Plan’s provision of COVID relief and child poverty reduction

  • Eviction moratorium

  • Federal vaccination campaign

  • House investigation of January 6 insurrection

  • Biden’s diversification of the federal bench

  • Imminent firing of Postmaster-General DeJoy

  • Bipartisan infrastructure bill that repairs physical infrastructure, creates new jobs,   and stimulates the economy

  • House passage of BBB which, upon Senate approval, will combat climate change, expand health care options, lower American families’ cost of living, and create new, good-paying jobs—financed by taxing corporations and the wealthy.

We’re especially grateful that the House-passed BBB includes paid family leave, lowering prescription drug costs, universal pre-K and the child tax credit, affordable housing investments, and immigration reform—which we must convince the Senate to retain.

Over the next several days, let’s tell our MoCs how much we appreciate them, while reminding them how much still remains to be done to create the America we all want and need.

ACTION One: Call the Senate (Please call more than once over the Thanksgiving holiday)

My name is [--] and I'm a constituent from [city], Oregon [zip code].

I want to thank you and your staff for working so hard this year turning campaign promises into progressive legislation. We are very fortunate having you as our Senator. America needs either the Build Back Better Act as currently drafted or an improvement right now, and it also needs swift passage of pending voting rights legislation. I know you will do all in your power to make this happen.

Your constituents and your country need both the Build Back Better Act and pending voting rights legislation. Remember that when your leadership urges you to obstruct.

I want to thank you and your staff for working so hard this year turning campaign promises into progressive legislation to protect American families and our democracy. Your constituents need the help that the Build Back Better Act provides. Your trashing of the Build Back Better Act and approval of Minority Leader McCarthy’s ridiculous ranting filibuster (Bentz issues statement on 'no' vote on Build Back Better bill; Merkley hails House passage - KTVZ) shows you are not fit to represent your district.

I’m calling to thank you for voting for the Build Back Better Act and for your willingness to allow some negotiation on prescription drug pricing. It is too bad Americans can’t get all their prescriptions reasonably priced. I expect you to vote for its final passage when it returns to the House upon Senate passage.
