Trump’s war on government continues from the inside
From the post office to the IRS, Trump holdovers are actively working against us. It’s time for them to be held accountable.
QUICK READ: The American government should be working for all of us, but Trump appointees continue to inflict lasting damage to us, to our government, and to our democracy. If the law protects them from being fired, then Congress must continue to shine a light on them and hold them accountable.
TAKE ACTION NOW:
BACKGROUND
Elections have consequences, right? Sometimes they don’t.
Trump’s war on government continues from the inside.
Sometimes, it’s because Biden maintains Trump’s policies, including immigration and foreign policy. One of Biden’s own appointees called his massive expulsion of migrants “inhumane.”
Photos of Border Patrol agents on horseback, running down migrants on the banks of the Rio Grande, look a lot like a Trump poster for how to treat people from “shithole countries.”
The more lasting damage is done by Trump appointees still occupying high offices.
One of the most despised Trump holdovers is Louis DeJoy, the Post-Master General, under whom rates have been increasing while services erode.
Charles Rettig, the IRS commissioner, built a career as a tax attorney from Beverly Hills. Not surprisingly, the IRS has reduced the number of audits performed on wealthy Americans, while cutting taxpayer services.
Chris Wrey, the FBI director, has come under fire for listing “Black Identity Extremists” as a top terrorism threat while being slow to place America’s white terrorists on the same list.
And then there’s the Supreme Court. This term, Trump’s Court will rule on abortion, gun rights, funding of religious schools, campaign finance limits, and more.
Congress needs to hold them accountable.
