WE NEED BIDEN’S INPUT ON THE SPENDING BILL
Jump to today’s actions:
Background
If a spending bill isn’t passed by Congress and signed by the President by Friday, we’ll face another government shutdown.
A one-week Continuing Resolution to buy more time to negotiate a bill seems likely. But we need them to pass a 3-month bill CR to extend current government funding past the inauguration of President-elect Joe Biden.
There should be no lame duck spending bill influenced by Trump, who is salting the earth before he retreats from Washington.
There should be no capitulation to McConnell and his Republicans. They called massive tax breaks to wealthy corporations, friends and donors that increased the national debt by $7 trillion “stimulus”. They call Democratic proposals to return tax dollars to Americans and their communities to actually help people “deficit spending.”
We deserve input from Biden and his team on how the government spends our money. The budget should reflect his and our goals: To rejoin the world community, effectively address the health and financial impact of the pandemic, and enact anti-racist, environmental, progressive financial policies.
We respectfully request that our Members of Congress delay the budget process and instead pass a 3-month Continuing Resolution and a strong COVID relief bill in both Houses.
1. Call the Senate.
