Background

Section 3 of the Fourteenth Amendment states: "No person shall be a Senator or Representative in Congress … who … having previously taken an oath, as a member of Congress … to support the Constitution of the United States, shall have engaged in insurrection or rebellion against the same[.]"

126 House Republicans signed onto a case brought by a Trump sycophant in Texas asking the US Supreme Court to overthrow fair and certified elections in four other states, even though the Constitution specifies that each state will set its own election rules. This was an act of subversion and sedition. Even a Court cynically packed by Trump for a moment like this, rightly called their lawsuit frivolous.

It’s telling that Republicans are labeling votes cast in counties that have a high of Black population "invalid." They claim to be the party of Lincoln, but pander to racists waving the flag of Confederate traitors, who waged war against the US and assassinated President Lincoln.

These House Republicans have abdicated their oaths of office. Their attempt to subvert the Constitution to maintain white power endangers the future of our elections and democracy itself. Speaker Pelosi must refuse to seat them in the 117th Congress.
