AN ANTI-RACIST FUTURE
Jump to today’s actions:
Background
We've all been anxious this election season. We had to beat back fascism in the face of rampant voter suppression.
The common thread underlying both the rise of authoritarianism and voter suppression is the racism that's so embedded in our structure and policies that those of us with privilege often fail to see it. We will not be able to protect our democracy or address the multiple crises we face until we acknowledge this fundamental reality.
The Democratic House passed the John Lewis Voting Rights and For the People Acts in 2019. Together, these bills restored Black voting rights established in 1964 and gutted by SCOTUS in 2013, established a non-partisan redistricting commission, funded election security, and ended dark money. The HEROES Act provided funds to the state and local governments that pay for elections and theUSPS. The GOP Senate refused to vote on any of these bills, allowing the wealthy few to control our elections and DeJoy to undermine voting.
We commit to getting out the voter for the Senate run-offs in Georgia. We ask our MoCs to name, condemn, and change the racism and the policies that disproportionately harm BIPOC communities.
