FRIDAY RECAP: August 27th, 2021
WHO CAN VOTE? ALL CITIZENS OR THE PRIVILEGED? TELL YOUR Member of congress WHAT YOU THINK!
History is made by those who continue to show up. We save democracy by persevering. When we get tired of repeating ourselves is when others begin listening, so we must keep at it.
This week the John Lewis voting act was passed by the House this week. It could end the Supreme Court’s 50 year war on minority voting rights. For now, it heads to the Senate and collides there with a companion voting bill, the For the People Act, which could reverse the attacks on voting rights in many states. But both bills to protect democracy could die by filibuster.
This fight is about one thing, does every citizen have the right to vote or should it be a perk for the privileged? The answer, coming in a few weeks but bleak at the moment, will shape democracy for a generation. Get in this fight! Now!
Today is our day to catch up on our calls. Whether you called every day or not this week, commit to calling one more time--and more times next week.
If you called every day, pick your favorite script and call again.
If you called less, use the script from a day you forgot to call.
If you’re really dedicated, use the other scripts to call this weekend.
Here are three great topics to choose from:
