Background

President Biden: “We remain in a once-in-a-century public health crisis that’s led to the most unequal job and economic crisis in modern history, and the crisis is only deepening. It’s not getting better. It’s deepening.”

As average Americans struggled and sacrificed, Republicans cynically snuck a tax break for a group of hedge fund and real estate investing millionaires and billionaires into last year's CARES pandemic relief act. It will cost us upwards of $110 billion.

Yet now the GOP is hypocritically balking at the cost of a pandemic relief package which would be a lifeline for millions of Americans who are facing unemployment, homelessness, and hunger due to the pandemic.

Unemployment assistance from the CARES act expires on March 14. Millions can’t pay rent or utilities. More than 18 percent of families with children say they didn’t have enough to eat in the past week.

Biden’s plan also gets vital funding to public health efforts, small businesses and state and local governments trying to keep public services working.

Congress must pass Biden’s American Rescue Plan now without the cuts and delays Republicans have been demanding. And repealing this disgraceful billionaire tax break is a good way to help finance it.
