EVERYONE WHO GOT A SURVIVAL CHECK BEFORE MUST GET ONE NOW

Background

Biden campaigned for Warnock, Ossoff on the promise of $2,000 stimulus checks: “[T]heir election will put an end to the block in Washington on that $2,000 stimulus check, that money that will go out the door immediately.”

Less than a month later Biden is open to narrowing who qualifies for survival checks.

How can an income be low enough to qualify for two checks under Trump, but not under Biden? If the $600 check was part of the $2,000 promised, why wouldn’t everyone who received $600 also receive $1,400?

Many who will be cut out are counting on that check to make ends meet. This is bad faith causing real pain and will hurt our ability to help in the future.

“[I]f you want to see us lose a Senate race in Georgia in two years, then . . . break the promise made during the Georgia runoff.” (Merkley)

How about a Senate majority, too?

Oregon’s Senators oppose the change. But they are dealing with Democrats who want stricter thresholds. And as one long-time operative said, with a 50-50 majority, every Senator is a Majority Leader.

Call our MoCs. Contact friends with Democratic Senators. A promise is a promise.

1. Call the Senate.

Script Oregon Senators

SEN. MERKLEY: Portland office: 503-326-3386 | D.C. office: 202-224-3753

My name is [--] and I'm a constituent from [city], Oregon [zip code].

I am relieved to hear that you support keeping the threshold the same for receiving the $1,400 survival check. If the $1,400 is the second part of the $600 already disbursed, why wouldn’t it go to everyone? I ask you use your political capital to convince wavering Democratic colleagues that changing the rules of the program would be devastating to real people and to the party. Thank you.

SEN. WYDEN: Portland office: 503-326-7525 | D.C. office: 202-224-5244

My name is [–] and I’m a constituent from [city], Oregon [zip code].

I am relieved to hear that you support keeping the threshold the same for receiving the $1,400 survival check. If the $1,400 is the second part of the $600 already disbursed, why wouldn’t the same people receive the $1,400? As the Senate Finance Chair, you are especially influential. Please use your political leadership to convince wavering Democratic colleagues that changing the rules of the program would be devastating to real people and to the party. Thank you.

Script for Republican Senators

D.C switchboard: 202-224-3121

My name is [–] and I’m a constituent from [city], [state], [zip code].

I want you work for and vote for keeping the original threshold for survival checks in the pandemic relief bill. I believe that we should adhere to rules negotiated for the first and second survival checks. Those who got the first two checks must get check number three. No program is perfect. People need the help. Thank you.

2. Call the House.

If the Senate passes a pandemic relief package with a lower threshold for the $1,400 stimulus check, I want you to work for a return to the original threshold in the pandemic bill. Candidate Biden promised the American people $2,000 stimulus checks. If the $1,400 check is the second part of the $600 already disbursed, why wouldn’t it go to everyone? Real people need this relief. A promise is a promise. Keep the rules the same for check number three. Thank you.
